Local Charter Key Sailing Crosses 25,000 Mile Mark
SARASOTA, Fla. (March 31, 2011)–Local charter Key Sailing is an official Sarasota FIVE STAR attraction, but this week owner Jan Solomon has another distinction.
Key Sailing has officially crossed the 25,000 mile mark. The “Key Breeze” 41’ Morgan has now sailed 25,000 miles in less than 4 years from Slip E-18 of Marina Jack, with just one boat and a husband and wife team who have sailed local Sarasota waters together since high school.
“That’s once around the globe at the equator,” quips US Coast Guard Master Captain Rev. Tim Solomon, who somehow manages to also pastor at a local church part-time.

“When guests ask why we don’t just take off to actually sail around the world, I mention that we have a grandson here,” adds his wife Jan.
Jan’s roots here are deep. This hometown girl since 1960 sails across from the Chaplain J.D. Hamel Veteran’s Park named in honor of her father, with the key to the city both on her boat and in her heart. Jan is also winner of the 2010 Greater Sarasota Chamber Small Business Awards in Woman Entrepreneurial Excellence and the 2009 Siesta Key Chamber Business Person of the Year.

Having just completed her memoirs in a book called, “Sailing Home” with excerpts on her newest website, www.keysailingsarasota.com, Jan is already working on the sequel. “I was going to call it, 20,000 Miles From Home. But now I’d better change it to, 25,000 Miles From Home….And finish it quickly,” she adds with a smile.
To reserve your spot on the Key Breeze, locals and visitors must also act quickly. Jan takes reservations days, weeks, months, and even years in advance from her sailing cell phone office at 941-346-SAIL-7245.
